It’s only Tuesday evening, but we already seem to be off to a brisk start in the IT world. With Yahoo! cutting 1,500 workers (wow, MORE layoffs, how do companies function?), we see the economy taking it’s toll on businesses (and so many employees) across all industries.

In the meantime, some businesses are still trying to reap the benefits of consumerism, especially the high-demand market for ivory. I wonder if PETA will have anything to say about that, as they seem to have about pigs (why was this on my Sci/Tech newsfeed?!?)

In slightly cooler “free stuff” news, the company that indexes our lives Google has released Android’s source under (what seems to be) the Apache 2.0 license. Cool stuff there (I’m still considering getting the T-Mobile M1 with Android, pending resolution of the job situation).

Being a geek, I also think that this story from NASA is cool. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of stuff this picks up. In related spacey news, India is going to the moon (I wonder if we’ll outsource there).
