I sent my HP laptop off to be repaired. The display hinges were broken and HP issued a recall, so free repair.

The service tech today calls me and informs me that my motherboard is “broken” and needs replacement for a low cost of $312. The conversation went about more or less like this:

Him: Our techs have found that your motherboard is broken and as a result your screen won’t display.
Me: That’s odd, it worked when I sent it.
Him: Well, the box wasn’t damaged so it’s not FedEx’s fault. It must’ve already been broken when you shipped it.
Me: I can promise you that it worked perfectly except for the hinge issue before I sent it to you guys. I was using it about 15 minutes before I put it into the box.
Him: Well sir, it’s broken and needs fixing.
Me: I say it was working when it I sent it, you say FedEx didn’t break it. I can only assume that one of your repair techs broke it then.
Him: So you won’t be wanting the new motherboard?
Me: No, just fix the hinges like I requested originally and send it back.

$20 says it works just fine when I get it back. Else they broke it and customer service is getting one nasty phone call. I am never buying HP again. Their products are great, their customer service/tech support have been atrocious since day one.

(PS: first day at work was good, if uneventful)
