Yesterday I went down to the river with my friend to enjoy the absolutely wonderful weather. It was in the mid-80s, low humidity and the sun was shining. Sat out on the rocks and had a great afternoon. Until we leave.

On the way back, I slipped on a rock and dropped my shirt in the water and got pretty wet. Otherwise ok, I got up and proceeded on. Not ten feet away, I slipped again. This time much harder. I dropped everything in the water, including my phone. I fished it out about 30 seconds later, but it was already off. Now, some 15 hours later, it still wont turn on (but it makes a rather loud buzzing sound when you try to put the battery in). I have declared my G1 dead.

This morning, I remembered I still had my crappy Motorola KRZR lying around. Found it, popped in the SIM card (after some struggling, I couldn’t remember where the SIM card went) and plugged it up–thank god for universal mini-USB chargers these days. Can’t find the battery, so I’ll hop over to T-Mobile later today and buy a fresh one. Hopefully this will all hold together until I can afford a new G1. I don’t like the MyTouch, so I’d rather stick with the G1 for now–unless the Hero comes out soon.

Oh yeah, and I woke up kinda sick this morning. Figures.

Wow, I cannot honestly believe I am writing this post today. Who’d have thought I would ever write a post about Magic Jack. For those of you who don’t know, Magic Jack is a VoIP product in the US. Known for their bad commercials and customer complaints, they’re a joke.

In any case, one of their commercials came on a few minutes ago. For some odd reason, I decided to look at their website. It’s actually not half bad. I took a look at their HTML and it’s pretty simple and straightforward. On their homepage, you’ll notice their banner:

Taking a look at their HTML, it would seem this banner isn’t what it seems:

And some of their JS would seem to back that up. Now, page counters are a bit outdated these days. But if you’re going to use a page counter, don’t lie about it. Don’t pretend it’s some indication of how many customers you’ve gained today.

I was just doing some housecleaning over at enwiki; deleting some old subpages, etc. Turns out someone welcomed my former bot back in March (shows how often I take notice of enwiki).

Ended up being a sockpuppeteer, but whatever. Looking back, I don’t think anyone slapped a {{welcome}} template on me back in ’05 The history indicates the template has been around since July 11, 2004. Funny, a lot of the original wording has survived to this day:

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay.

Those words have pretty much remained unchanged since the first revision. And hell, “How to edit a page”, “How to write a great article” and the monolithic “Manual of Style” have been included links since the first version. Some things on Wikipedia never change.
